Treehugger has a bit from Street Films about Hangzhou’s bike-share programme. Here in Toronto, we’ve just installed Bixi stations, but this is something else entirely.

Depending on location density bike stations are between 2-500 metres apart or 5-800 metres apart and are integrated with the public transit system.

You get the first 60 minutes free, 90 minutes if you just used your card to pay for the bus i.e. encouraging mix-modal transportation.

All this in a city of 6.11 million.

So far I’ve found Bixi stations to be too well hidden in some locations to make them instantly recognizable as a transit option.
