Nice little piece in Copenhagenize about why painted bike infrastructure is inadequate. Living in Toronto with nothing but painted bike lanes, and “sharrows” — don’t get me started on that garbage — I’m painfully aware of just how tenuous that “lane” is. Just look at this past winter and the failure of the City to clear bike lanes for weeks WEEKS after a 20cm dump. No, painted lines and cute stencils of bicycles are insufficient to guarantee safe or permanent bicycle infrastructure.
