To quote Mikael Coleville-Andersen: “Talk about ignoring the bull.” So it seems that University of Calgary researchers have decided that urban cycling is so dangerous that we need to wear body armour. The study seems to be ignoring the fact that the reason why we suffer trauma to the chest and abdomen is due exclusively to the fact that we share the roads with cars. Maybe we should be looking at the speeds and driver behaviours that lead to chest and gut crushing injuries. Next pedestrians will be asked to don body armour before stepping out the door.
